Recall Details

The recall affects certain model year 2027 Wabash Van Trailers. NHTSA said the external ABS malfunction indicator light may not be labeled as required by FMVSS No. 121, resulting in noncompliance with the federal safety standard for air brake systems.

Remedy

Wabash will mail owners an ABS identification label and installation instructions free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Sept. 26, 2026. Owners with questions may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404.

According to a recent government report, a significant number of Wabash trailers with rail-style lift gates may be defective. In fact, an estimated nine out of every ten trailers failed to meet a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.

The recall specifically affects Wabash dry van trailers with model years ranging from 2009 to 2024. If your trailer falls into this category, take note of the following models: DVDBHPC, DVCVHPC, DVHDHPC, DVLSHPC, DVCVRCP, DVXDHPC, RFALHSA, RFCVHSC, DVLHHSA, DVCVHSA, and DVDBHSA.

The safety issue arises from a rail-style lift gate with a rear guard that is positioned too far forward. This configuration reduces impact protection, putting you at an increased risk of injury.

“The addition of a rail style lift gate was not taken into account when calculating the rear most extremity of the vehicle,” the recall report said.

In order to comply with FMVSS no. 224, the rear impact guard will be upgraded with an extension to the horizontal member. This extension brings the guard in line with the 305mm maximum setback requirement.

Dealers will add the extension for free of charge. Owners should keep an eye on their mail in late November for a notification regarding this recall.
