Wabash National Corporation is recalling 553 model year 2027 van trailers because the external antilock braking system (ABS) malfunction indicator light may not be labeled, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The missing label means the affected trailers do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 121, “Air Brake Systems.”

Recall Details

The recall affects certain model year 2027 Wabash Van Trailers. NHTSA said the external ABS malfunction indicator light may not be labeled as required by FMVSS No. 121, resulting in noncompliance with the federal safety standard for air brake systems.

Remedy

Wabash will mail owners an ABS identification label and installation instructions free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Sept. 26, 2026. Owners with questions may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404.

Wabash Recalls Van Trailers Over Underride Guard Bolt Issue

Wabash is recalling certain 2027 model year van trailers after discovering a problem with rear underride guard installation.

The recall covers 920 Wabash van trailers built between April 20 and June 5, 2026. According to the recall report, the bumper tube bolts on the rear underride guards may not have been tightened to the updated torque specification. That can reduce the protection provided by the guard and means the trailers may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 223 covering rear impact guards.

Wabash said the issue traces back to a change in torque specifications tied to the use of different metals in rear impact guard manufacturing. In late May, the company learned through a deviation request from its bumper tube supplier that the bolts had been torqued below the required spec.

How Wabash Says the Issue Was Fixed

Wabash said the condition was corrected in production on June 6. The company is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the recall.

Dealers will tighten the bumper tube bolts at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 14. Owners with questions can contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404.
