The American Truck Historical Society plans to award a pair of VIP NASCAR Cup Series tickets during its Awards Banquet on June 5 as part of a fundraising raffle held throughout the organization’s National Convention and Truck Show.

The winner will receive two VIP tickets to the Sept. 27 NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. Raffle tickets are available for $5 each, with proceeds supporting ATHS’s Building Maintenance Campaign.

For anyone attending the convention and still considering entering, time is running short. The drawing takes place Friday evening.

A Busy Week in Springfield

The convention opened earlier this week at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds and continues through June 6, bringing together truck owners, drivers, collectors, and industry enthusiasts from across the country.

Rows of restored classics, rare trucks, and historic working equipment have filled the grounds as attendees spend the week exploring exhibits, demonstrations, vendor displays, and trucking memorabilia. The event also includes an evening light show that has become a popular attraction for visitors.

This year’s gathering carries added significance because Route 66 is celebrating its centennial in 2026. Springfield’s deep connection to the historic highway helped make it a natural choice for this year’s event.

ATHS noted that the city provides a fitting backdrop for a convention focused on preserving and celebrating trucking’s history.

More Than A NASCAR Prize

While the raffle winner will walk away with a NASCAR experience, the fundraiser itself supports a larger effort.

According to ATHS, proceeds will help preserve the society’s headquarters and support its mission for future generations. The organization has spent decades documenting trucking history and highlighting the people, equipment, and milestones that helped shape the industry.

The raffle gives attendees an opportunity to support that mission while also taking a shot at a trip to Kansas Speedway later this year.

Advance registration for the convention has already closed, but on-site registration remains available. Daily spectator admission costs $15 for ATHS members and $20 for non-members. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.

Celebrating the trucks that built Route 66

The weeklong event begins June 2, when trucks arrive at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, with the main show scheduled for June 4-6. What to expect at the show

Attendees can view hundreds of trucks, from meticulously restored classics to rare working rigs, each representing decades of craftsmanship and trucking history.

“Each of these trucks has its own story and craftsmanship,” said Peter Wild, ATHS convention committee chair. “The convention provides a welcoming space for all trucking enthusiasts to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and share the passion for trucking history during the show and at special events throughout the week.”

Activities beyond the trucks

The convention offers educational sessions, hands-on demonstrations, vendor exhibits, and an evening light show featuring the trucks. Attendees can also enter a raffle for a chance to win VIP tickets to a NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway in September.

Dubbed the “Miles for Veterans—Route 66 Virtual Route Challenge,” this 2,200-mile virtual fitness event invites participants from across the country to a nostalgic and meaningful adventure. By walking or running, participants will virtually travel along historic Route 66 while honoring veterans, promoting wellness, and celebrating the rich heritage of this legendary highway.

This historic road, often referred to as the “Main Street of America,” has played a significant role in both the trucking industry and military history. Since its inception in 1926, Route 66 has served as a crucial commercial artery, connecting communities and facilitating the movement of goods across the United States.

Veterans and the Trucking Industry

The trucking industry has long been intertwined with the experiences of veterans, many of whom transition into truck-driving careers after completing their service. With approximately 18 million veterans in the U.S. currently working as truck drivers, they continue to uphold values of resilience and dedication, driving the economy forward.

This unique connection between veterans and Route 66 inspired Rolling Strong President Steve Kane to develop this virtual walk/run initiative. Route 66 in Wellston, Oklahoma, is going to be shut down in both directions starting this fall. This isn’t just for a few weeks—it’s expected to be closed until next fall. The reason? A $48 million project by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority to widen the road and rebuild a bridge. The construction is happening between I-44 and the Turner Turnpike, near mile marker 158, between State Highway 102 and U.S. Highway 177.

What Does This Mean for You?

To keep traffic moving on the I-44/Turner Turnpike, they’re setting up a detour that’ll cross Route 66 in Wellston. Because of this, the highway will need to close where the detour is. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s necessary.

Local drivers will have their own detour, but it comes with size and weight limits. So, if you’re driving something big, you’ll need to find another route.

Here’s How to Get Around:

• Westbound I-44/Turnpike Traffic: If you’re heading toward Wellston, you can still take the westbound off-ramp and keep going on westbound Route 66. But you won’t be able to turn onto eastbound Route 66 from there.
• Eastbound Traffic to Wellston: Coming from the east? You’ll have to detour south on U.S. Highway 177, go west on U.S. Highway 62, and then head north on State Highway 102 to get back to eastbound Route 66.
• Eastbound from West Wellston: If you’re on the west side of Wellston and need to go east, you’ll detour south on State Highway 102, then head east on U.S. Highway 62, and finally go north on U.S. Highway 177 to get back on Route 66 or hop on the eastbound I-44/Turner Turnpike on-ramp.

What’s Coming After?

Once all the work is done, there’ll be two new bridges that can handle six lanes of traffic. Route 66 will also get sidewalks under the new bridges, getting ready for future expansion to four lanes.
