In a landscape where roughly 90% of the nation’s 300,000 truck parking spaces are provided by private entities, entrepreneurs like Cameron recognize the pivotal role private parking facilities play in alleviating the ongoing truck parking crisis, which affects both the trucking industry and the general public. Investors are beginning to recognize the potential value in this sector.

“It was astonishing to me to see that there was a ton of government-funded research, pretty much across every state, that talked about the big truck parking crisis,” Cameron said. “Then you have drivers raising their hand and saying, ‘This is the biggest issue that we face.’ I looked for anybody that was trying to play a role in solving this problem, both private and public companies, and there was no one that was making a meaningful impact on this problem.”

Recently securing $12.5 million in Series A funding, Outpost aims to expand its network of truck parking facilities. This capital infusion is complemented by a $500 million investment portfolio in industrial outdoor storage initiated by GreenPoint, an investment firm. Clearly, truck parking is attracting significant investment interest.

The funds will be utilized to grow Outpost’s network of truck parking facilities, which currently stands at 18 locations offering over 8,000 parking spaces. These facilities are predominantly concentrated in Texas, the Southwest, and the Midwest, with plans to double this footprint within the year. Expansion efforts will target major logistics markets and metropolitan areas, though Outpost acknowledges the widespread nature of the truck parking crisis and will explore opportunities beyond these areas.

In addition to the facilities directly owned and managed by Outpost, the company collaborates with third-party facility managers to offer parking services at an additional 20 locations. While this resembles the brokerage model employed by other truck parking services, Outpost stands out by owning and operating its own facilities, totaling 18 and counting.

Outpost’s comprehensive approach to parking services encompasses real estate ownership, operational management, and technology integration. This control enables Outpost to deliver a consistent user experience across all its facilities. Furthermore, the company is piloting a membership program with select clients, aiming to provide carriers with nationwide facility access through a flat-rate subscription model, departing from the conventional pay-per-use structure. Details, including pricing and inclusion criteria, are currently under development, with plans for a formal launch later this year.

“We think that scaling and network is going to help drivers have a lot more conviction that they can go into a market anytime and always have a place to park,” Cameron said.
