The company announced the launch of a new Professional Driver Rewards program designed for truck drivers, delivery operators, and other commercial vehicle professionals who regularly fuel at Sprint Mart locations.

Unlike standard consumer rewards apps, this program focuses on driver-specific perks tied directly to fuel purchases.

How the Sprint Mart Driver Rewards Program Works

Drivers earn points for every gallon of fuel purchased. Those points can then be redeemed for practical benefits that support life on the road.

The program features two status levels:

• Gold
• Diamond

As drivers move up in tier status, reward value increases.

According to the company, points can be redeemed for:

• Free showers
• Fountain drinks
• Discounts on in-store items such as Bluetooth headsets
• Emergency gear
• Comfort products for the cab

The program is separate from Sprint Mart’s existing general consumer loyalty system and is tailored specifically to professional drivers.

“Our drivers are essential partners in everything we do. … We wanted to create something that truly adds value to their day-to-day lives,” said Herb Hargraves, chief operating officer at Sprint Mart.

Travel Center Amenities and Footprint

Sprint Mart operates 94 locations across Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. Of those, 10 are designated travel centers. Five of those locations currently offer showers, according to the company.

For drivers running regional lanes through the Gulf Coast and Southeast corridors, this may create additional incentive to route fuel stops strategically.

The program is scheduled to go live early this month. Sprint Mart also plans to host live events at select travel plazas, allowing drivers to ask questions and enroll in person.

Coordinated Road Checks Across State Lines

This yearly campaign sees state and local law enforcement agencies from the five participating states working in unison to identify and remove impaired drivers from the roads. Officers will conduct simultaneous road checks across state borders, focusing on catching drunk and drugged drivers, while also issuing citations for speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations, including improper car seat usage.

“We are fortunate to have neighbors who are as committed as we are in Georgia to saving lives on our roads and that they are always ready to work with us during the year on other projects that promote safe driving,” remarked Allen Poole, Director of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Hands Across the Border sends a message to every driver in the southeast to slow down, buckle up, and drive sober and alert before the Labor Day holiday travel period.”

A Longstanding Tradition of Safety

The Hands Across the Border campaign began in 1991 as a friendly challenge between the Georgia State Patrol and the Florida Highway Patrol to see which state could reduce alcohol-related traffic deaths over Labor Day weekend. The initiative quickly expanded, with all states bordering Georgia now participating in joint road checks along their state lines. The primary aim of this effort is to intercept impaired drivers before the final holiday weekend of the summer, contributing to safer roads for all.

“Our ultimate goal at any time of year is to get dangerous drivers off the roads and help reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities,” said Roger Hayes, Law Enforcement Services Director at GOHS. “But with a major travel weekend coming up and so many warm weather vacation destinations across the southeast, we want everyone to make sure they drive sober, put down their phones, slow down and that everyone in their vehicle is properly buckled up.”

Addressing the Southeast’s Traffic Fatality Rates

Campaigns like Hands Across the Border are crucial, especially given the concerning traffic fatality rates across the southeastern United States. In Georgia alone, there were 1,504 traffic-related deaths in 2018, a slight decrease from the 1,540 recorded in 2017. However, alcohol-related fatalities rose from 356 in 2017 to 375 in 2018, and speed-related deaths also saw an increase from 248 to 267 over the same period.

Hayes further emphasized the importance of this collaborative effort, stating, “We partner with our state line neighbors in communities along the South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee borders for road checks, enforcement, and awareness. This isn’t about raising revenue, but rather lowering fatalities.”

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, and Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce President Bradley Byrne came together for the exciting commissioning event at Vertex Energy Inc. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“By sourcing feedstock locally within our own state, Vertex fosters economic growth opportunities from farm-to-facility and offers low-carbon fuel products that contribute to a cleaner environment, not only here in our beautiful Alabama, but across the nation where these products are sold,” Ivey said.

Vertex, a leading energy firm, has transformed a former Shell refinery into a cutting-edge renewables site. The $115 million conversion project was launched last year and is set to revolutionize the industry. Vertex CEO Benjamin Cowart noted that the renewable diesel produced on the site will help the state move in a new direction, significantly reducing emissions.

“The opportunity to bring this kind of innovation to my hometown and the state of Alabama is incredibly meaningful. I believe this is just the beginning as we progress on our commitment to a cleaner environment by creating a sustainable growth path for the energy transition,” Cowart said.

A Vertex company announcement stated, “Alabama’s soybean farmers will play a crucial role in supplying the feedstock, along with other suppliers across the country. The collaboration between Vertex and these suppliers is expected to help strengthen the local agricultural sector and help foster a stable transition to renewable energy sources.”

The new facility will use soybean oil as its main feedstock while also being able to adopt other organic waste oils in the future.

Another development in the field involves a letter from Clean Fuels Alliance America and four other trade associations urging the EPA Administrator to increase the volume of biomass-based diesel and overall advanced biofuels in the Renewable Fuel Standards for 2023-2025. The letter argued that the current production of biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation were being underestimated by the EPA.

EPA also listed proposed volumes that “are simply inconsistent with the investments our industries have made and plan to expand production and commercial availability of these fuels by 2025. We encourage you to ensure adequate supply and availability of these low-carbon fuels by substantially raising the biomass-based diesel and associated overall advanced biofuel volumes” when finalizing the RFS standards this year, the letter urged.

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, the Association of American Railroads, and the National Energy & Fuels Institute, have also signed the letter.

“Sustainable, low-carbon, domestically produced liquid fuels like biodiesel, renewable diesel and Bioheat fuel are commercially viable today and have sufficient resources to scale up rapidly,” the letter stated. “Our industries need these fuels to decarbonize air transport, long-haul shipping and trucking, and home heating, and meet the needs of our customers and supply chain partners.”
